Altered oral microbiota and immune dysfunction in Chinese elderly patients with schizophrenia

Schizophrenia (SZ), common mental illness among the elderly, is a complex psychiatric neurodevelopmental disorder with uncertain etiology and pathogenesis. Mounting evidence indicated that the gut dysbiosis was associated with the pathogenesis of SZ, whereas the role of the oral microbiota in elderly SZ was still elusive.
