HadSLP2 is the only monthly mean dataset that merges global land and marine observed atmospheric pressure, spanning the period from 1850 to 2004 with a spatial resolution of 5°×5°. It utilizes ICOADS marine observational data and in-situ land observations (for both continental regions and islands) from 2,228 meteorological stations worldwide, whose spatial distribution is shown in Figure 20-1. After integrating these land and marine observational datasets, HadSLP2 is reconstructed via the reduced-space optimal interpolation method, then high-quality enhanced gridded data is overlaid onto the reconstructed dataset to restore local-scale information. HadSLP2r is a real-time product serving as an extension and updated version of HadSLP2. Since 2005, this product has adopted NCEP/NCAR monthly mean data, and implemented corrections using the climatological mean difference between HadSLP2 and NCEP/NCAR datasets.
