Charles A. Drenowatz Collection at MRZ

With the Charles A. Drenowatz Collection, which it received as a gift in 1979, the Rietberg Museum owns one of the most important collections of Chinese painting from the 15th to the 19th centuries, the Ming and Qing period, in Europe. The collection is known worldwide and has a great art-historical reputation. Thanks to funding from the Federal Office of Culture, the museum has carried out a project in depth with the collector Charles A. Drenowatz (1908-1979), who acquired his paintings in the 1950s and 1960s, as well as the history of the works and networks through which Drenowatz was able to compile the collection.
