资源简介:
These are volumes, locally designated 'Shot Books', containing lists of photographic negatives. Details include: negative number, title or description, and date. Prefixes were allocated according to type of negative or subject matter. The series arrangement varies according to particular volume. Generally arranged according to number. In earlier volumes, arrangement was by type of negative (e.g. half plate) within a year. System changed to a numerical arrangement with various categories combined. The system of numbering the negatives and the significance of the prefixes is explained below.System of Numbering Photographic NegativesOld System (prior to 1945) Example of numbering Plate A1234 10 x 8 inch 1234 1/1 12/19 1/2 B23 1/4New System (from 1 January 1945) PrefixPlate or film A10 x 8 inch B1/1 C1/2 D1/4 E116 film616 film F120 film620 film G35mm film4 x 5 inchFirst two numerals of each negative number represents the year.Other codes used Code Meaning AR Archives CX Copy reproduction HB Hawkesbury Bridge P Tramway Q Circular Quay Z Signal Branch negatives CN Colour negatives E Electrical Branch EC Electrical Colour ES Eastern Suburbs ESC Eastern Suburbs Colour EW Wangi Power Station H Half plate J Job LE Legal and Estates Branch LEC Legal and Estates Branch Colour M Mechanical MC Mechanical Colour CME Chief Mechanical Engineer's negatives - accidents PR Public Relations RAS Royal Easter Show RB Ryde Bridge RH Railway House RV Royal Visit S Signals Branch SC Signals Colour T Traffic Branch TC Traffic Colour OPS Operations TR Transport (Urban Transit Authority) TRC Transport Colour V Views VC Views Colour W Way and Works Branch WC Way and Works Colour Custody HistoryFrom 1955 until 2000 the State Rail Authority of New South Wales maintained an 'in house archives' consisting of the archival records of the Authority, its predecessor agencies and the private railway companies taken over by the government. The date ranges of the records were from 1849 until 2000. When the decision was made to close the 'State Rail Archives' the parts of the collection that were required as State archives were transferred to the State Records Authority of NSW. Those record series were incorporated into the State Records series system of archives control and were re-numbered. This series was formerly part of the State Rail Archives collection where it was identified as series R172. It may have been viewed in the State Rail Archives as series R172 and could have been previously cited as such in notes by researchers at State Rail Archives or in publications or unpublished works.
