Environmental sampling was conducted at 4 coastal habitats (3 beaches and 1 estuarine habitats) in New South Wales, Australia. Samples were analysed under an eco-genomic approach, in order to assess i) if microbial communities associated with diseased seagrass tissue differ from assemblages inhabiting healthy seagrass tissue, and ii) what environmental and/or anthropogenic factors contribute to the influence of the diseased seagrass-associated microbiome. Briefly, microbial communities (including bacterial, algae, and fungi taxa) associated with healthy and diseased (i.e. showing typical symptoms of the wasting disease) seagrass tissue were identified and compared, in order to find biotic (i.e. microbiome) and abiotic (i.e. environmental and/or anthropogenic stressors) factors favouring seagrass disease.
