Air Quality Measurements and Meteorological Measurements Annual Report Background Monitoring Network 2015

The Federal Environment Agency operates seven air quality centres at which background pollution, distance transport of air pollutants and air quality trends are collected. The report shows the results of the measurements in 2015 and the development of the last 20 years. The limit values for particulate matter, nitrogen dioxide, nitrogen oxides, sulphur dioxide and carbon monoxide, as well as for heavy metals and benzo(a)pyrene were met at all measuring points. In the case of ozone, the target values for the protection of human health were exceeded at all measuring points, those for the protection of vegetation at all measuring points except chubby soil. The information threshold was exceeded in Enzenkirchen, Illmitz and Pillersdorf. In spite of a long-term declining trend, compliance with the target values is not foreseeable in the coming years.
