Illumina NovaSeq 6000 sequencing: WGS of rattus norvegicus: whole blood of of the BXH6/Cub strain

The HXB/BXH recombinant inbred (RI) strains were derived from the SHR (spontaneously hypertensive rat) and BN-Lx (Brown Norway) progenitors as a model system for genetic and correlation analyses of complex cardiovascular and metabolic traits. Recently, we observed a recessive mutation, an abnormal coat appearance, in some animals of the BXH6 RI strain. The striking phenotype allowed the mutation to be fixed in the BXH6 subline. In this study, we report identification of the abnormal coat mutation as a nonsense variant of the Tuft1 (tuftelin 1) gene and describe its effects on morphological and metabolic traits.
