The aim of this study was to characterise the composition, expression profile, and functions of stromal cells, including fibroblasts, endothelial cells, pericytes, and smooth muscle cells, in the microenvironment of AOM/DSS-induced tumors. This data are expected to provide information on stromal cell functions during carcinogenesis and potentially reveal novel targetable mechanisms of stromal activation at the early stages of tumor development. Overall design: Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) was performed to characterize the transcriptional heterogeneity of the AOM/DSS tumor microenvironment. Tumors were obtained from AOM DSS treated mice. 10X Chromium Next GEM Single Cell 3' Kit v3.1 sequencing was performed at live stromal cells that were isolated by FACS sorting after the exclusion of epithelial and immune cells.
