Endocrine Disrupting Compounds in the Chesapeake Story Map

<p>The U.S. Geological Survey and its partners conducted a five-year study on endocrine-disrupting compounds in the Chesapeake Bay watershed, which concluded in 2021. The study built on previous work on factors affecting fish health. This story map summarizes findings from this study and from historical investigations, which include:</p>
<ul>
<li>Spatiotemporal variation in occurrence of organic contaminants;</li>
<li>Groundwater discharges as a source of contaminants;</li>
<li>Environmental and anthropogenic drivers of contaminants;</li>
<li>Estrogenic endocrine disruption in fish and land-use influences;</li>
<li>Probability of estrogenic activity in surface waters; and</li>
<li>Contaminant reduction via best management practices, or BMPs.</li>
