Scientific communication strategies and social media usage in the field of microbiology

Using an on-line survey we collected data from 527 scientists, with 219 participants directly working in the microbiology field and other 308 participants outside this field. We asked questions regarding the preferred vehicles used to stay updated with recent literature, to promote their science, to find collaborators, and we particularly focused on the role social media have in their scientific activities.
