Simulation data and code behind the manuscript "Borehole densities for detecting, confirming and delineating buried waste" Monte Carlo simulation of synthetic waste bodies under four borehole layouts (random, square grid, triangular grid, stratified random) quantifies the investigation density required to detect a buried body, to confirm it, and to delineate its footprint under three reconstruction rules. Requirements are expressed through the dimensionless density λ = ρA, the expected number of boreholes on a footprint of area A, and are converted into grid spacing in design charts. Site-scale scenarios are informed by a published dense investigation (136 boreholes, nine waste-positive). The deposit is a flat file set: simulation configurations with their random-number seeds, aggregated outputs, the fitted design values with bootstrap intervals, the verification-gate reports (exact binomial forms, 30 canonical ELIPGRID-PC cases, hypergeometric subsampling), the site geometry digitised from the source paper's figures with its quality-check metadata, and the manuscript and supplementary tables. 00_README.md describes every file. Per-replication arrays (~0.4 GB) are not deposited: they are exactly reproducible from the per-configuration seeds. The accompanying archive msw_detection_code_and_runnable_tree.zip contains the simulation engine together with the configurations and aggregated outputs at the paths the scripts expect, so the entire fitting and analysis layer re-runs in about two minutes on an ordinary computer and reproduces the deposited design values byte-for-byte. The digitised site geometry derives from figures published by Zhang, X., Yin, A., Lu, Y., et al. (2025), "Integrated Investigation Approach for Solid Waste Landfill Hazards — A Case Study of Two Decommissioned Industrial Sites", Toxics 13(10):807 (CC BY); every such record carries a digitized_from_figure flag.
