Pottery camel

Dark brown, micaceous clay. The broken head has been glued back on. The figure is made from two equally elaborate moulds. The numerous clay pellets on the surface suggest a plaster mould, which must have been quite fresh when the terracotta was moulded, as the numerous details also show. The camel is carrying three amphorae on each side of a saddle fastened with wide straps. Its head is adorned with a broad band decorated with three round discs.
