Genomic analysis reveals limited hybridization among three giraffe species in Kenya

We report the low-coverage genome sequencing of wild giraffe (Giraffa spp.) representing the three taxa occurring in Kenya: Nubian (G. camelopardalis camelopardalis), reticulated (G. reticulata), and Masai giraffe sensu stricto (G. tippelskirchi tippelskirchi). We investigate the extent of natural hybridization and genetic admixture among them and reconstruct the changes in their effective population sizes over the recent past.
