Gene expression signatures of salinity transitions in Limia perugiae (Poeciliidae), with comparisons to other teleosts

This study compared genome-wide signatures of gene expression between a hypersaline and freshwater population of the livebearing fish species, Limia perugiae. The patterns of gene expression identified among the L. perugiae populations were then compared to previously-published data of three other population pairs of distantly related fishes that similarly made salinity transitions. The goal of this project was to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying salinity tolerance in fishes, as well as to understand if transitions along salinity gradients have been accompanied by convergent changes in gene expression.
