Improving biodiversity at North Head through habitat restoration and protection

The Green Army team will focus on improving the endangered ecological community of Eastern Suburbs Banksia Scrub within Sydney Harbour National Park, which comprises important habitat for the endangered Southern Brown Bandicoot, Large-eared Pied Bat, and as a foraging area for many species of birds, including Australian Bittern. Targeting the heritage sites at North Head and Chowder Bay, the team will reduce the competitive impact of invasive weed species, particularly asparagus fern and crofton weed, assist National Parks and Wildlife Service staff on fauna monitoring programs, and establish a long-term improvement in the quality, quantity and biodiversity of native habitat, through regeneration of important species.
