Neisseria gonorrhoeae strain:ATGG49226 | isolate:J. E. Martin Genome sequencing

To obtain more insight in the mechanisms N. gonorrhoeae employs to thrive in the hostile environment of the human host and survive immune attack, the applicant aims to use an unbiased approach. N. gonorrhoeae will be cultured in the presence of fatty acids. By stepwise increasing of the antimicrobial concentrations or by selecting and re-exposing of survivors natural mutants that show enhanced biological fitness can be selected. These mutants will be analyzed by full-genome sequencing and compared with their isogenic wild-type strains to identify beneficial mutations.
