Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi enhance nitrogen acquisition from, but not carbon loss of, organic matter in soil

This dataset includes an experimental dataset and a meta-analysis dataset for investigating the effect of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) in mediating the relationship between plant N acquisition from, and decomposition of organic substrates. The experimental data are results from an experiment using mycorrhizal-defective mutants and wild-types of two plant species with isotopically labelled litter to trace the allocation of carbon and nitrogen drived from litter in plant and soil. The meta-analysis dataset collected 108 entries from 43 studies that also employed stable isotopically labelled organic substrates. The meta-analysis dataset also includes information on the properties of the added organic substrates (type and ln-transformed C:N ratio) and the experimental design (methods used for AMF exclusion and spatial distribution of organic substrates).
