The Fusarium chlamydosporum species complex is a multispecies lineage of the fungal genus Fusarium that has been defined by DNA sequence-based phylogenetic analysis. Some of these species have been isolated from soils and plant tissues in semi-arid and arid areas in central Asia, Australia, southern Europe, and the Middle East. Multiple species, including some that are not formally described, are associated with human infections. Although members of the F. chlamydosporum species complex are generally not associated with mycotoxin contamination problems in food and feed crops, whole genome sequence analyses have revealed the presence of the fumonisin or trichothecene mycotoxin biosynthetic gene cluster in some species.
