Molecular characterization of human ACTH-producing tumors

This study investigates the molecular features of ACTH-secreting tumors to uncover gene expression patterns specific to this condition. By analyzing RNA-seq data from a diverse set of 36 samples, including pituitary adenomas with ACTH secretion, pituitary tissues, and other neuroendocrine tumors with ectopic ACTH secretion, we aim to identify distinct molecular signatures associated with ACTH production. Overall design: The study involved RNA sequencing of 36 samples, including 22 pituitary adenomas with confirmed ACTH secretion, 7 healthy pituitary tissue samples serving as controls, 6 lung carcinoids with ectopic ACTH secretion, and 1 pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor with ectopic ACTH secretion. All samples were derived from formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissues.
