A total of 26 sediment samples and 2 peat samples from along the Skokomish River in
western Washington were water-screened to recover organic fragments suitable for
radiocarbon analysis. Botanic components and detrital charcoal were identified, and potentially
radiocarbon datable material was separated. Charcoallbark fragments from eight of the
samples and the two peat samples were submitted for AMS radiocarbon analysis. In addition, a
wood section from a stump buried in a stream was submitted for identification. The growth
rings were counted, then portions of wood from both the inner and outer sections also were
submitted for AMS radiocarbon analysis.
