Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) is a pathogen responsible for serious human diseases, such as hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS) and diarrhea in different mammals, mainly cattle, which is considered the most important reservoir of EHEC. In Peru, alpacas are the principal economic resource of the Andean communities and they suffer of diarrhea associated with pathogenic E. coli strains, especially EHEC. Here, we present the draft genome sequence of EHEC strain ECA1 isolated from alpaca in Peru on a farm in which shedding has been observed. Genomic analysis will provide information on the genetic diversity and virulence potential of alpaca EHEC ECA1 and insights into specific genes allowing for adaptation to this host.
