To understand the genetic system in red algae, large scale EST analysis of Porphyra yezoensis has been going on at the Kazusa DNA Research Institute. Large number of sequences have currently been generated from both gametophytic and sporophytic tissues of P. yezoensis Ueda (strain TU-1). The sequence data is available from the Kazusa website.
