This series is comprised of a single volume of Contributions to Works Book for the Culcairn Shire Council.A shire council was responsible for the care, control, construction, formation, fencing, maintenance and management of all public places within its territory except those for which other constitutional arrangements were in place. (1)Under section 40 of the Local Government (Shires) Act, 1905 a council was obliged to maintain true and regular accounts in books of accounts of all sums of money received or paid. The forms or manner in which these books were kept, were prescribed by the Governor. (2)This series records the following information: date of approval, Councils minute number, amount approved, locality, description of work, name of owner, occupier or body contributing to cost, unit, quantity, rate, total cost of work, amount of contribution, amount borne by the shire council, and payment contribution.Endnotes: 1.
