In 2020, Germany was the leading inbound tourism market in Italy based on overnight stays. That year, roughly 39 percent of overnight stays in Italian travel accommodations came from German travelers. However, the number of international tourist overnight stays in Italy fell dramatically in 2020 over the previous year due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
