Indonesian Susenas, 2005

Indonesia Social and Economic Survey (Susenas 2005) is a nationwide survey conducted to collect information on social and economics indices. It serves as a main source of monitoring the social and economic progress in the society. Susenas was conducted on an annual basis since 1963. In 1992, in addition to a basic social and economic questionnaire (core), another questionnaire was introduced which gathers more detailed information on special interest topics (module). The core questionnaire covers basic household and individual characteristics on health, death, education/literacy, employment, fertility and family planning, housing, and household expenditure. This questionnaire is asked annually with only slight modification in subsequent years. Susenas 2005 covers 278,352 households and is designed to be representative up to district/municipality levels. The module questionnaire is intended to gather more detailed information on specific topics, especially on data that changed less frequently than yearly. There are three modules of Susenas and each module is added in a three-year cycle. In 2005, the module's topic was household consumption, household expenditures and household income. The data set covered 68,288 households and is designed to be representative at the national and provincial level. A subset of core-module samples, not identified in the data sets, covered 10,640 households. The Susenas Module collects information on a household level. In the archive deposit Susenas 2005 core was divided into two data files containing Household Characteristics (au.edu.anu.ada.ddi.01205) and Individual Characteristics (au.edu.anu.ada.ddi.01206). Susenas 2005 Module data was separated into nine files which contain information on Consumptions of Food, Beverages, and Tobacco from purchase (au.edu.anu.ada.ddi.01207), Consumptions of Food, Beverages, and Tobacco from production (au.edu.anu.ada.ddi.01208), Consumptions of Food, Beverages, and Tobacco Total(au.edu.anu.ada.ddi.01209), Non-Food Expenditure (au.edu.anu.ada.ddi.01210), Summary of Food and Non-Food Expenditure (au.edu.anu.ada.ddi.01211), Income from Wage/Salary (au.edu.anu.ada.ddi.01212), Income from Agriculture (au.edu.anu.ada.ddi.01213), Income from Non-Agricultural Sector (au.edu.anu.ada.ddi.01214), Income, Capital, Transfer and Financial Transaction (au.edu.anu.ada.ddi.01215), Summary of Income, Revenue and Household expenditure (au.edu.anu.ada.ddi.01216), and Perception and Event Experiences (au.edu.anu.ada.ddi.01217). The thirteen data files can be viewed together on the on-line catalogue, but form thirteen separate files when downloaded. Merging among data files of Susenas 2005 is possible using the following key variables: province, district/city, sub district, village, and household code. The contents of the files are as follows. Household Characteristics (Core) - (au.edu.anu.ada.ddi.01205) This file contains information about household members gathered from core questionnaires (VSEN2005.K Blocks I, II, Vi, VII, VIII, IX, and X in the manual). It includes information about identification of place, household characteristics, housing, household expenditure, other socio-economic information, and paddy farming characteristics. Individual Characteristics (Core) - (au.edu.anu.ada.ddi.01206) This file contains information on household characteristics gathered from core questionnaire (VSEN2005.K Blocks I, II, IV, V). It includes information about identification of place, household characteristics, household member characteristics, and individual characteristics of children under five's health, education, employment and fertility and family planning. Consumption of Food, Beverages and Tobacco (from Purchase)- (au.edu.anu.ada.ddi.01207) This file contains information on household consumption of food, beverages and tobacco from purchase/credit gathered from module questionnaire (VSEN2005.M Blocks I, II, IV.1 columns 4 and 5). It includes information about identification of place, household characteristics, and consumptions within the last week of food, beverages and tobacco acquired from purchase or credit. Consumption of Food, Beverages and Tobacco (from Self Production) - (au.edu.anu.ada.ddi.01208) This file contains information on household consumption of food, beverages and tobacco from self production/gift gathered from the module questionnaire (VSEN2005.M Blocks I, II, IV.1 columns 6 and 7). It includes information about identification of place, household characteristics and consumption within the last week of food, beverages and tobacco acquired from self production or as a gift. Consumptions of Food, Beverages, and Tobacco (TOTAL) - (au.edu.anu.ada.ddi.01209) This file contains s information on total household consumption of food, beverages and tobacco gathered from the module questionnaire (VSEN2005.M Blocks I, II, IV.1 Columns 8 and 9). It includes information about identification of place, household characteristics and total consumption within the last week of food, beverages and tobacco. Non-Food Expenditure - (au.edu.anu.ada.ddi.01210) This file contains information on household consumption of non-food commodity gathered from module questionnaire (VSEN2005.M Block I, II, IV.2). It includes information about identification of place, household characteristics and non-food item expenditure over the last one month and the last twelve months Summary of Food and Non-Food Expenditure - (au.edu.anu.ada.ddi.01211) This file contains information summary of household consumption of food and non-food commodity gathered from the module questionnaire (VSEN2005.M Block I, II, IV.3.1, IV.3.2). It includes information about identification of place, household characteristics, average food consumption expenditure (itemised) over the last week, and non-food expenditure over the last one month and last twelve months. Income from wage/salary - (au.edu.anu.ada.ddi.01212) This file contains information summary of household income from wage/salary gathered from the module questionnaire (VSEN2005.M blocks I, II, V.1.A) It includes information about Identification of place, household characteristics, and total income from a wage or salary in the last month including monetary value of goods or services received. Income from Agriculture - (au.edu.anu.ada.ddi.01213) This file contains information summary of household income from agriculture gathered from the module questionnaire (VSEN2005.M blocks I, II, V.1.B). It includes information on identification of place, household characteristics and income as a result of family agricultural business in the last 12 months. Income from Non-Agriculture - (au.edu.anu.ada.ddi.01214) This file contains information summary of household income from non-agriculture gathered from module questionnaire (VSEN2005.M blocks I,II, V.1.C). It includes information on identification of place, household characteristics and income from Non-agricultural family business in the last three months. Income, Capital, transfer and Financial Transaction - (au.edu.anu.ada.ddi.01215) This file contains information on Income, Capital, Transfer and Financial Transaction gathered from module questionnaire (VSEN2005.M blocks I, II, V.1.D, V.1.E, V.1.F, V.1.G). It includes information on Identification of Place, Household Characteristics, non-business income over the last 12 months, Increase or decrease of capital goods in the last 12 months, transfer revenue and spending in the last 12 months and financial transactions in the last 12 months. Summary of Income, Revenue and Household Expenditure - (au.edu.anu.ada.ddi.01216) This file contains information Summary of Income, Revenue and Household Expenditure gathered from module questionnaire (VSEN2005.M blocks I, II, V.2.A, V.2.B, V.2.C). Household Perception and Events Experiences - (au.edu.anu.ada.ddi.01217) This file contains information Household Perception and Events Experiences gathered from module questionnaire (VSEN2005.M I, II, VI, VII) It includes information on Identification of Place, Household Characteristics, fulfilment of households food and non-food expenditure in the last one month and perception of events with a negative impact on the household welfare and how household members dealt with the impact.
