Here is a dataset offers the biodiversity information of beetles in the Ma On Shan territory of Hong Kong, China. This study collected beetles through three passive collection methods (Flight interception traps, Malaise trap and Pitfall trap) in different areas. The dataset consists of beetles collected at the sampling site of Ma On Shan, (Hong Kong) from 05.27, 2017 to 06.17, 2017. Each place contains 13 samples points, which was set by one flight interception traps, one malaise trap and ten pitfall traps. A total of 3046 beetles from 42 families and 325 species were collected. This dataset consists of five parts: 1) the original photos of beetles collected (photographed in 198 images); 2) photographs of beetles containing identification results; 3) the statistical table of the number of beetle specimens; 4) the morphological species identification chart; 5) a statistical table of latitude, longitude and altitude information. This study collected beetles through three passive collection methods, providing an effective and achievable way for passive collection of insects. This dataset can quantitatively assess the diversity of beetles, thereby enriching research on beetle diversity in Hong Kong.
