Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP) is one of the most common pathogens causing community-acquired pneumonia in children and can be treated with azithromycin successfully, accompanying with the common adverse effects such as antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD). Increasing evidence suggests that certain probiotics may prevent the development of AAD. Our present study aimed to investigate the effects of probiotics (live Clostridium butyricum plus Bifidobacterium infantis) on the prevention and treatment of AAD for children with M. pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP) that co-administered with intravenous azithromycin.
