资源简介:
Marine sponges are understudied yet extremely common benthic organisms on coral reefs, especially in the Caribbean. They provide highly cloistered environments to a plethora of organisms, including invertebrates, tiny fishes, and a rich microbial community. In this study, we uncover cryptic ecological interactions in a benthic marine microcosm, including a sponge, resident goby, and their microbial assemblages. Beyond shelter, the sponge provides key microbes to its resident goby. In turn, young gobies feed on sponge detritus, potentially representing a source of nutrition for the goby as well as a clean-up service for the sponge.
