Pacific salmon and artificial propagation under the Endangered Species Act

Artificial propagation, especially the use of production hatcheries, has been a prominent feature of fisheries enhancement efforts for Pacific salmon for several decades. Recently, the decline of many natural populations has prompted the development of another role for artificial propagation: assisting in the conservation of salmon populations.
