资源简介:
This dataset contains raw survey responses from a study investigating the gap between current commuter activities and the activities passengers would ideally undertake during public transport journeys, with a focus on identifying opportunities for eXtended Reality (XR) applications in transit contexts. The survey instrument was adapted from the National Rail Passenger Survey (NRPS) as analysed by Lyons et al. (2017) and Singleton's (2016) survey of Portland commuters, with additional items added to reflect contemporary activities (video conferencing, meditation/relaxation). Participants categorised 22 commuting activities across four response options: Don't do and don't want to, Currently do, Currently do but want to do better, and Don't currently do but want to. Open-response questions were collected for any activity marked as desired but currently unfulfilled. Participants also identified their primary commute activity and transport mode. Respondents were recruited via university mailing lists, online forums, and posters at public transit locations. The survey was administered online via Qualtrics between February and May 2023. Of 124 responses received, 89 were retained after validity screening; 84 identified as passive commuters and form the primary analytical sample. The sample comprised participants aged 18–65+ across bus, rail, subway, car, and other transport modes. This dataset supports the findings reported in Chapter 3 of the associated PhD thesis: Balancing Media Immersion and Reality Awareness forPassengers through Augmented Reality TV Ornamentations, University of Glasgow.
