In the winback area, there is a strong presumption of encountering the hamster or its habitat. Its perimeter is intended to protect the species and make its restoration possible in the short to medium term. It is based on criteria of biology and the actual presence of hamster from 2000. The winback area covers 155 municipalities covering 138 000 ha. This perimeter covers the entire vital space of hamster populations known in the recent past.
