Floating Wetland Treatments to Enhance Remediation (FLOWTER) Study- Diluted Bitumen

The goal of this experiment was to monitor changes to the microbial community on engineered floating wetland roots upon exposure to a model oil spill of diluted bitumen that received primary recovery of shoreline washing in a shoreline enclosure experiment conducted at the IISD Experimental Lakes Area, northwestern Ontario, Canada in 2019. The study included an experimental enclosure (oiled; EE), a reference enclosure (unoiled; RE), and a lake reference site (unoiled; LR). The microbial community was analyzed using 16S and 18S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing.
