Questions on AIDS, health and consumption of semi-luxury foods, tobacco
and alcohol. Characterization of job situation.

Topics: information on occupation and employment; arrangement of
working hours with or without shift change; time worked each week;
frequency of overtime and actual total work time per week; paid side
jobs; characterization of actual and perceived burdens at work;
frequency of personal work accidents; health reasons for a change of
job; frequency and length of personal unemployment in the last ten
years; judgement on the job situation and job satisfaction (scale);
smoking and use of alcohol at work; psychological effects of work on
personal life (scale); information on earlier employment; reasons for
termination of this activity.

Daily effort for housework; housework on weekends; persons in need of
care and handicapped in the household; the position of women in family
and professional life (scale); judgement on personal family life
(scale); contacts with advice centers; most important burdens and
problems (scale), number of rooms in residence.

Satisfaction with leisure time and one´s own organization of leisure
time; preferred leisure activities; frequency of contact with friends
and relatives; presence of a person to confide in; memberships;
participation in courses and lectures.

Eating habits; diet attempts; weight and height; current preference
for tobacco products; use of cigarettes; age at first use of tobacco
products; not smoking due to specific situations; number of attempts to
quit smoking or to smoke less; interest in courses to quit smoking;
attitude to health risk from smoking; influence of third parties on
reduction in smoking.

For non-smokers: earlier smoking habits; reasons for quitting smoking;
attempts to convince others to quit smoking; number of smokers in
household; stays in smokey rooms; perceived irritations from heavy
smoking.

Frequency and extent of use of alcohol; reasons for use of alcohol;
effects of alcohol (scale).

Self-assessment of condition of health; frequency of visits to the
doctor and hospital stays; trust in doctors and modern medicine;
attitude to health (scale); participation in cancer check-ups in the
last 12 months; health-conscious behavior (scale); frequency and
regularity of use of medication; use of medication at work.

Year of marriage; employment of spouse and his hours worked each week;
times of unemployment of partner; possession of a telephone.

The following additional questions were posed to persons between 15
and 65 years old: sources of information on the topic of AIDS; interest
in information on AIDS; knowledge and perception of the AIDS education
campaign; assessment of the trustworthiness of selected advice centers
and media regarding their information on AIDS; personal recommendations
on combating AIDS and care for AIDS patients.

Questionnaire to be filled out: judgement on partnership (scale);
frequency and reasons for differences of opinion; consultation of
neutral parties with partnership problems; information on health
complaints; psychological self-characterization of feelings of personal
responsibility and self-determination as well as latent fear and
depression (scales).

Need for information regarding AIDS; concern that respondent as well
as friends and acquaintances could infect themselves with HIV; personal
behavioral changes from fear of HIV infection; knowledge about
possibilities of infection and protective measures; participation in an
AIDS check-up; intimate contacts during the last few years; probability
of personal infection.

Interviewer rating: presence of third parties during the interview and
their intervention in the course of the interview; reliability and
willingness of respondent to cooperate; degree of exhaustion of
respondent after the interview; date of interview.
