Mono- and trinuclear sumanenyl zirconocene complexes Cp(sumanenyl)ZrCl2, Cp*(sumanenyl)ZrCl2, and (C21H9)[(Cp*)ZrCl2]3 were successfully synthesized. In the mononuclear complexes, convex binding with disturbed η5-bonding was confirmed in a solid state. As demonstrated in the trinuclear complex, the multibenzylic anion of sumanene offers a novel ligand for the multinuclear metallocenes.
