VPRS 860 Schedules of Approved and Unapproved License Applications, Section 49, Land Act 1869

This series consists of copies of schedules listing those persons both approved and not approved for the issuing of licenses to occupy land under Section 49 Land Act 1869. Lists (or Schedules) were prepared after approval by the Board of Land and Works (VA 744) and, where required, by the Governor-in-Council. These schedules were printed in the Government Gazette.Details given on the schedules are the name of the applicant or of individuals involved in a transfer, the number of the license (if approved), the location of the land, the date of the license, the amount to be collected and the location of the Receiver of Revenue where amounts were payable. Where an application was not approved a note was made that the land was once again available for selection. Details refer to all areas of Victoria.Section 49 of the Land Act 1869 allowed the granting of a license for the occupation of auriferous (gold-bearing) land for a period of one year at a time. The amount of land was to be no more than 20 acres with an individual being permitted to hold one licence only. The fees were to be set by regulation.
