VPRS 5504 Register of Articles of Clerkship

A person who planned to seek admission to practise as an attorney, solicitor and proctor was obliged to serve five years as an articled clerk and to file his articles in the Supreme Court within a certain time of entering into them. After the passing of the Legal Profession Practice Act 1891 all seeking admission to practise as barristers and solicitors were required to serve articles.This series consists of the Register listing all persons who filed their articles with the Court whether the individual concerned did or did not ultimately complete articles and seek admission to practise. Details given are the number allocated each articled clerk, the name of the clerk articled and to whom, the date of articles and remarks. Remarks may include the notation of whether the person was admitted to practise, whether fresh articles were filed and the date of the filing of affidavits regarding qualifications gained in other jurisdictions.
