Chinese Opera Heritage Spatial Database (COHSD v1.0): A GIS-Based Dataset of 350 Traditional Opera Genres in China

The Chinese Opera Heritage Spatial Database (COHSD v1.0) is a comprehensive geospatial dataset containing information on 350 traditional Chinese opera genres. The database integrates spatial, cultural, heritage, environmental, and socioeconomic attributes to support research on the geography, evolution, and conservation of intangible cultural heritage. The dataset includes geographic coordinates, river basin classifications, river proximity, heritage designation status, legislative protection, opera age, water-related cultural characteristics, and socioeconomic indicators. Spatial variables were generated using GIS techniques based on HydroRIVERS, HydroSHEDS, and official geospatial datasets. Supporting documentation includes a complete codebook, metadata, data cleaning log, source table, and GIS workflow to ensure full research reproducibility. This dataset was developed as an independent research database and serves as the foundation for studies on river systems, cultural mobility, spatial clustering, heritage conservation, and digital humanities.
