资源简介:
Xanthomonas vasicola pv. musacearum is a bacterial plant pathogen responsible for causing Banana Xanthomonas Wilt (BXW), a devastating disease affecting banana and enset crops in East and Central Africa. This pathogen infects the vascular system of plants, leading to symptoms such as wilting, yellowing of leaves, premature ripening, and bacterial ooze from cut surfaces. Originally identified on enset (Ensete ventricosum) in Ethiopia, it later spread to bananas (Musa spp.), posing a serious threat to food security in the region. The bacterium is transmitted through contaminated tools, insects, and infected planting material. Effective management strategies include strict sanitation practices, use of clean planting materials, early detection and removal of infected plants (a practice known as single diseased stem removal), and public awareness campaigns. Taxonomically, this pathogen was formerly known as Xanthomonas campestris pv. musacearum but has since been reclassified based on genetic analyses. Its rapid spread and severe impact on staple crops make it a significant concern for subsistence farming communities.
