We propose the characterization of the electronic structure and excitations of the correlated insulating material BaFe2S3 by Fe L3 edge RIXS experiments. This material is an antiferromagnetic insulator that undergoes a pressure-induced superconducting transition with a critical temperature up to 24 K. As a spin ladder material, the BaFe2S3 electronic structure and spin/orbital excitations are prone to display an exotic phenomenology that may feature orbital fractionalization and the realization of an Orbital Selective Mott Phase. The RIXS experiments will be able to contribute to this debate.
