Abstract
A Monte Carlo simulation program is presented that enables one to find the optimal position of the HPGe (high-purity germanium) detector and to design various geometrical topologies for the shield and detector. The program has been tested up to 2.8 MeV and been compared very well with the experimental results [B. Lal and K.V.K. Iyenger, Nucl. Instrum. Methods 79 (1970) 19].
Title of program: CSSM
Catalogue Id: ACVH_v1_0
Nature of problem
Due to the Compton scattering, the gamma-ray spectrum will be ruined by the Compton backgrounds, any small peak in the Compton continuum generated by the intensed gamma peak will become invisible. To overcome this problem, a Compton suppression spectrometer is designed for the reduction of the Compton backgrounds.
