Pharmaceutical and Personal Care Products (PPCPs) form a group of emerging contaminants that are increasingly found in the environment. The current study investigates how the application of three PPCPs; ibuprofen, diclofenac and triclosan to biomixtures of microcosm scale biopurification systems affect bacterial communities. To achieve this goal, the biodiversity of bacterial communities was studied by sequencing amplicons of the V4-V5 region of the 16S rRNA gene from metagenomic DNA extracted at different time points from biomixtures treated or not with these PPCPs.
