Mg2+ in drinking water exacerbates Salmonella Typhimurium T6SS-mediated intestinal bacterial competition through affecting metabolic reprogramming

By establishing a model of enteritis in mice infected with Salmonella Typhimurium, this study investigates the effects of ion concentration in drinking water on intestinal metabolites and microbiota structure in mice, as well as its influence on pathogen susceptibility and the host-pathogen interaction process involving virulence systems.
