These data derive from identifying the secondary strike risk potential resulting from a mammal-aircraft strike event. These trials were conducted at Dublin Airport in Ireland during 2020-2022. Commercial rat carcasses were used as a proxy for stricken wildlife.
Object= ID of event
Type= Trial or historical strike event. Strike events refer to historical strike data between Irish hares and aircraft at Dublin Airport, Ireland. Data were recorded by dublin airport.
Site= either 'airside' or 'compound' or trials. Compound was a concrete compound c. 200m from the main runway.
Sampling period= month and year of trial
Season= spring (March- May), summer (June-August), Autumn (September -November) and winter (December- February).
Start date of trial= DD:MM:YYY
ID code= unique ID of each trial. SS= Sunset, SR= Sunrise, GR= grass substrate, C= Concrete substrate
Light condition= sunrise or sunset at time of deployment
Substrate= substrate type, wither concrete or grass
Start time= HH:MM:SS
End Time= HH:MM:SS
End date of trial: DD:MM:YYY
Time of event= HH:MM:SS
Time until = HH:MM:SS
Duration= HH:MM:SS
Date of event= DD:MM:YYYY
Species= colloquial name of species event is recording
Quanitity= number of each species recorded for each event
Animal type= bird/ mammal
Scavenger species= Yes/ No
Scavenger event= Yes/ No (was the carcass actually scavanged)
Age= age of carcass at time of event in 12 hour interval
Light condition= Day/ Night
Sunrise= time of sunrise that day in Dublin, Ireland
Sunset= time of sunset that day in Dublin, Ireland
Sunset Number= sunset time as a fraction
Sunrise Number= Sunrise time as a fraction
