We describe a shigellosis outbreak primarily occurring in the Albuquerque, New Mexico metro area between May 2021 and July 2023, affecting men who have sex with men, people experiencing homelessness, and nonhuman primates at the Albuquerque BioPark zoo, causing high levels of morbidity and mortality. Combining long and short reads in a hybrid assembly yielded a fully closed genome, which we designated our internal outbreak reference strain (PNUSAE076676).
