Crosses were carried out to select native oysters of the Crassostrea gasar species with different shell colors, a phenotypic characteristic of commercial interest that can add sales and consumption value to the product. Selection generated strains of light and dark shell coloration, including golden shells, black shells, and striped shells. However, little is known about the biological and genotypic characteristics linked to these phenotypes. In order to evaluate differential transcription gene profiles related to shell colorations, the present study identified differentially transcribed genes from RNAseq analyses. This study becomes relevant, not only for generating data on the basic biology of molluscs about the pathways related to the color of shells and tissues, but also for the development of new breeding programs and genetic selection assisted by molecular markers that may be implemented to strengthen the safe development of oyster farming.
