Natural Forest Cells — Total Reserves according to the Saxon Forest Act in Saxony

A Web Map Service (WMS) of the state enterprise Sachsenforst. This map service visualises the natural forest cells (NWZ) recorded according to the Saxon Forest Law (SächsWaldG) — total reserves. Natural forest cells are forest areas that are left to their natural development. According to the SächsWaldG § 29 (3) they are protected forest with the aim of safeguarding the natural development of flora and fauna at a development stage close to natural vegetation. Natural forest cells primarily serve the research of self-developing forest communities, their soils, their vegetation, forest structure and fauna (process analysis). They thus offer versatile approaches to the analysis of processes in forests and can be the basis for near-natural forest management or indicator of large-scale (anthropogenic) changes in relatively near-natural forest ecosystems. Furthermore, the aim is to deduce knowledge about multifunctional forest management with the designation of natural forest cells.
