We want to investigate the low-temperature crystal structure of compounds with a potential for magnetocaloric hydrogen liquefaction. The experiment is two-fold, where half of the experiment is to investigate HRE1-xVO3 (HRE = Ho, Dy, Er; 0≤x≤0.1) compounds and how the choice of HRE and A-site vacancies influence crystal structure, structural phase transitions, and their refrigerant properties. The second half is to investigate HRE1-xLRExMn2 (HRE = Gd, Dy; LRE= Pr, Nd; x = 0.25, 0.50) Laves compounds, which undergo a cubic to hexagonal phase transition upon heat treatment. Therefore, we want to confirm that the phase transition is not reversible at cryogenic temperatures. The results will provide insights into structure-property relationships, guiding the development of efficient magnetocaloric materials for hydrogen liquefaction.
