Low dose iron treatment downregulates ferroptosis-related genes in human chondrocytes: Implications for osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a prevalent degenerative disease with a partly elusive etiology. Recent studies suggest that maintaining appropriate iron levels are crucial in preventing progression of knee OA. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms are unknown. We investigated the potential protective effects of low-dose ferric ammonium citrate (FAC) on chondrocytes and its impact on ferroptosis-related gene expression.
