Öffentliche Oberflächengewässer

In accordance with Section 1a of the HWSchV, the public surface waters of the Canton of Zurich are determined by the AWEL by means of an order and are kept in a plan and in a register. Since 1995, public waters have also been recorded in the GIS and continuously tracked. By continuously improving the follow-up processes, the GIS data today correspond to the current, legally binding stock of public above-ground waters. Geometries and attributes are captured according to ESRI’s ‘Linear Referencing’ concept. The concept consists of two levels: the metricd basic geometries of the water network (routes) and several event tables (events) for storing attributes along the base geometries by means of meters (From-to data for lines). The zero point is respectively at the estuary or at the sea outlet. The basic geometry is separated in flow waters (WB_FLIESSGEWAESSER_L_M) and standing water (WB_SEEUFERLINIEN_L_M). For standing waters, an area dataset is also available (WB_STEHGEWAESSER_F). The data is updated weekly over the weekend. NOTE: The municipal water number (municipal water number) was replaced by a new cantonal water number as of mid-January 2022 and removed in the GIS datasets and in the GIS browser. In official documents, please use only the cantonal water number immediately. Municipal GIS may need to be adapted. We recommend integrating the cantonal data into external systems as WFS or WMS. This means that the data is always the same as in the canton. Under 45.8 a conversion table of the municipal river water number and the route number into the new cantonal river water number is available.
