In English:
The oceanographic cruise CITHER 3 (Circulation thermohaline 3), organised by
the laboratories of Physical of the Oceans (LPO) from IFREMER-Brest and of the
Dynamic and Climatology Oceanaography (LODYC) of the University of Paris, has
been carried out on board the French R/V L"Atalante".
The aim was the study of the nutrients distribution and their modelling using a
triangular analysis of water masses mixing both with Atlantic and Antarctic
origins, as well as the circulation dynamic along the east edge of the Atlantic
between 4" 57' N, 11" 47' W y 45" 30' S, 8" 30' W, covering more than 5000
km along the section A14 proposed by the program WOCE (World Ocean Circulation
Experiment).
During the cruise 107 stations, spacing about 30 mn, were performed. In each
station a CTD cast provided with a rosette with 30 Niskin bottles of 8 L was
made. The casts were carried out until the bottom, reaching more that 5200 m in
the position 0" 40'N, 6" 59'W. From the 8 L of water collected by the
Niskin bottles, the following variables were analyzed: CFCs (1/1 station, all
depths), Helium 3 (1/7 station, about 20 depths), Oxygen (1/1 station, all
depths), Total CO2 (1/3 station, all depths), Alkalinity (the same than Total
CO2 + surface sample at each station), Salinity (1/1 station, all depths),
Nutrients (1/1 station, all depths), Dissolved Organic Carbon ( 7 stations
along the section A-14; 10 depths), Tritium (the same than Helium 3),
Chlorophyll a (1/1 station, surface sample) and Phytoplankton (the same than
chlorophyll).
